We had been working on proposed Plan Change 26 – Housing choice since 2018, to make it easier for people to build a variety of more compact types of homes in Tauranga.
We have worked to implement the still relevant parts of Plan Change 26 through Plan Change 33, including the implementation of the Te Papa Spatial Plan, how we assess resource consent applications for multiple dwellings on a site, and the urban design criteria set out in the Residential Outcomes Framework.
We have carried over the stakeholder and community feedback we received from the Plan Change 26 process as we developed Plan Change 33, as much as possible.
Submissions made on Plan Change 26 do not carry over to the Plan Change 33 submission process. We therefore encourage submitters on Plan Change 26 to review proposed Plan Change 33, and to make a submission, noting that many components of this new plan change are dictated by the Government.
