Mount Maunganui

Destination Skatepark

Destination Skatepark is the go-to destination for all roller codes and modes – from newbies to seasoned pros. Located on the corner of Hull and Maunganui Roads (opposite New World supermarket) in Mount Maunganui, Destination Skatepark has been designed with the community in mind with different zones catering for all ages and abilities.

Blake Park vert ramp

Blake Park features New Zealand’s largest vert (vertical) ramp and allows skaters to reach greater heights than traditional ramps. At 14-foot high (4.36m) the vertical drop eases into a half-pipe. The vert ramp is recommended for more experienced skaters. Parents and caregivers are advised to supervise any younger skaters. Skaters will find the vert ramp opposite the intersection of Maunganui Road and Clyde Street, in close proximity to the popular Destination Skatepark.

Arataki pump track

The pump track in Arataki Park features easy, intermediate and advanced loops for all ages and abilities. The pump track can be found within Arataki Park near the intersection of Grenada Street and Kaimanawa Street.

Pāpāmoa

Gordon Spratt Reserve skatepark

Pāpāmoa is home to the revamped Gordon Spratt Reserve skatepark, designed in collaboration with experienced local skaters. Opened in 2023, the skatepark includes a range of quarter pipe and street style features such as a manual pad, a street hip, a euro gap, A-frame ramp, stairs, ledges and rails. Lighting enables the use of the park when night falls – lights are turned off at 10:30pm. The skatepark is best accessed from Parton Road.

Gordon Spratt Reserve pump track

The pump track at Gordon Spratt Reserve - opened in 2017 - was community-led and built with younger kids in mind to help improve their cycling skills. The basic goal of a pump track, besides having fun, is for the rider to learn how to pump the terrain to maintain speed. Pump tracks are set up with a series of rollers and berms that allow the rider to gain and maintain speed along the track without pedalling. The pump track can also be used by scooter riders.

Hartford Avenue Reserve pump track

The Hartford Ave pump track has been designed for bikes, scooters and skateboards. It’s a one-way track which runs in an anti-clockwise direction with the outside loop suitable for advanced riders and the inside for beginners. Located at 37B Hartford Avenue, the pump track sits alongside a playground, making it a family friendly destination.

Tauranga

Memorial Park skatepark, The Avenues

One of the original skateparks in Tauranga, the Memorial Park skatepark includes a mini ramp, a wedge ramp, a quarterpipe and other fun street-skate obstacles such as a manual ledge, a pole jam, a glass reinforced concrete (GRC) standard ledge and bank ledge, three different types of kerb grinders, and a fire hydrant with GRC kicker. The skatepark is located within Memorial Park and is best accessed from the Devonport Road entrance.

Seventeenth Ave skatepark, The Avenues

The Seventeenth Ave skatepark is a favourite amongst Tauranga skaters and features a variety of obstacles including ramps, rails and banks. Suitable for skaters of all levels, the skatepark is located near the Historic Village at 181 17th Avenue in Tauranga South.

Bellevue skatepark (Carlton Street Reserve), Otūmoetai

Located in Carlton Street Reserve, Bellevue skatepark is great place for kids of all ages and features include quarterpipes, ledges, a flatbank, a roll-in and more! Located on Ngatai Road, the reserve includes a playground, picnic area and a softball diamond.

Orangapani Reserve pump track, The Lakes

You’ll find New Zealand’s largest modular pump track at Orangapani Reserve in The Lakes. At 82 metres in length, the pump track is suitable for skateboards, scooters and bikes and is a magnet for all ages and skill levels. Located at 244 Lakes Boulevard, alongside the pump track is a basketball court and playground.

Waitaha Reserve skatepark, Welcome Bay

A new mini ramp completes the upgrades to the reserve which include a refurbished skate park, new basketball court and playground; a new shaded picnic area and bike racks; paved walkways and improved accessibility for wheelchairs and prams; and a new grassed amphitheatre with additional tree planting.

Tauranga BMX track

The Tauranga BMX track – located on 280 Cambridge Road – is run by the Tauranga BMX Club. The BMX track, which is open for the community to use, is a busy place after school, during weekends and through school holidays. The track is a great place for children and adults to learn or improve their cycling skills. For more information Tauranga BMX Club membership, visit their website.

Skatepark and pump track etiquette

Skateparks and pump tracks are fun, but busy places. Here’s a few things to keep in mind to help keep safe.

If you’re visiting Destination Skatepark, check out some tips and tricks here.

  • Younger children are encouraged to use skateparks at quiet times of the day.
  • Parents and caregivers must closely supervise younger children. Please be mindful of other rollers and riders while doing so.
  • Always wear a helmet. Wrist, knee and elbow pads are highly recommended.
  • Skate, scoot, roll and ride within your ability.
  • Respect others. Look out for/help beginners. Respect attempts.
  • Be patient. Wait for your turn. Keep your cool.
  • Share the space. Look before you roll or ride.
  • Please, NO alcohol or glass,  smoking, vaping or drugs.
  • Use the rubbish bins provided.
  • In an emergency call 111.

No-skate areas

There are several areas across the city where you can’t use skateboards, this is mainly for safety reasons and due to the large number of people using these areas.
