Development Contributions increases

Development Contributions are a charge on developments that helps pay for the infrastructure required to enable this growth (e.g. wastewater pipes, roads, reserves, treatment plants). Development Contributions may be required to be paid on subdivision consents, land use consents, building consents and in some instances on applications for service connections.

The development contributions charge on building consents and land use consents increased by $8849 on 1 February 2022.

Further increases to citywide development contributions are likely from 1 July 2022, to reflect the escalating cost of delivering infrastructure and as we start to collect Development Contributions to fund new community facilities like pools, libraries and community centres. At this stage we estimate the increases will be around $4000 to $5000 for a dwelling of three or more bedrooms. We’ll consult with the community on these proposals, once they’re firmed up, in the draft 2022/23 Development Contributions Policy in March/April 2022.
