Update at 3:40pm: gas leak repaired – The Strand open again
The gas leak on The Strand has been located and repaired by First Gas. The leak was to an underground gas pipe at the corner of The Strand and Hamilton Street.
The Fire Service and NZ Police have removed the cordons, and Tauranga City Council has restored vehicle access to The Strand, Wharf Street and Hamilton Street.
Update at 2:15pm:
The gas leak on The Strand is still being located and isolated by First Gas. The Fire Service and NZ Police have traffic and pedestrian management in place and there is still no vehicle access along The Strand and surrounding streets. We recommend that people stay clear of the area until the leak is resolved.
Street closures:
- The Strand
- Part of Wharf St from Willow St to The Strand
- Part of Hamilton street down by The Strand
Streets now open:
- Harington street
- McLean Street
We will notify you once the remaining streets are reopened to traffic.
Earlier:
A gas leak on The Strand is being attended to by the Fire Service. We have traffic management in place and have closed The Strand and surrounding streets to vehicles. We are advising people to stay clear of the area until the issue is resolved.
