By-elections cancelled

By-elections for the positions of Tauranga City Council Mayor, At Large Councillor and Otumoetai-Pyes Pa Councillor have been cancelled following the appointment of four Commissioners to replace the Council’s elected members.

Māori Ward poll preparations continue

Tauranga City Council Electoral Officer Warwick Lampp is continuing with preparations for a poll of electors on the establishment of a Māori Ward for the local government elections in 2022, but has indicated that legislation now before Parliament is likely to result in the poll being cancelled.
