Free eco design consultation

Create a warmer, healthier, and more energy-efficient home.

Whether you’re designing a new home or improving an existing one, Sustainability Options - a local alturistic business - offers free, expert advice to help you create a home that’s warmer, drier, healthier, and more energy-efficient which can also save you money on energy costs.

What’s on offer

Sustainability Option's Eco Design advisors will provide you with two hours of free consultation, where they will give you free, practical, cost-effective solutions for your home’s design, with a focus on improving comfort and energy efficiency. Sessions can be held at your home, online, at your building site, architect’s office, or at their Tauranga office.

During your consultation, they’ll discuss:

  • Designing a warm, dry, and healthy home
  • Fixing draughts and leaks
  • Choosing energy-efficient heating systems
  • Improving home energy efficiency
  • Ventilation and insulation tips
  • Managing moisture and mould
  • Solar power options
  • Hot water systems
  • Selecting the right windows and curtains

They’ll also direct you to other support programmes, including:

  • Warmer Kiwi Homes
  • 20 Degrees
  • Te Whatu Ora's Healthy Homes Initiative
  • Curtain Bank

Who can use this service?

This free service is available to all Bay of Plenty residents, including:

  • Homeowners, renters, and landlords (renters may require landlord approval for some changes)
  • Builders and designers seeking advice on sustainable building
  • Architects working on eco-friendly designs
