Beach wheelchairs

Beach wheelchair

Tauranga has two beach/all-terrain wheelchairs for hire throughout the year.

The versatile and comfortable wheelchair allows you to access most activities – it can even be immersed in water, so not only can you enjoy the beach but the ocean as well.

It can be used on its own or as a stroller with assistance. The push bar is easy to use and provides easy access through the soft sand and into the water.

Accessories include a harness, waist belt, armrests and headrest.

Booking the beach wheelchairs

The beach wheelchairs are free to book and use. 

Summer season bookings (1 December – 30 March)

The wheelchairs can only be used in Tauranga during the busy summer season. There will be two time slots per day:

  • 9am – 1pm
  • 2pm – 6pm

You can book online or in person at Mount Maunganui Beachside Holiday Park reception desk, 1 Adams Avenue, Mount Maunganui. We recommend you book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Off season bookings (1 April - 30 November)

The wheelchairs can be booked for longer than four hours during the off-peak season and taken for trips around the Bay of Plenty (for example school camps).

You can book online or in person at Mount Maunganui Beachside Holiday Park reception desk, 1 Adams Avenue, Mount Maunganui.  We recommend you book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Other accessible beach equipment

Other organisations also have accessible equipment available for hire, including a beach buggy and beach chair. Bookings are required.
