Tourism Bay of Plenty

Tourism Bay of Plenty (“TBOP”) is a trust, jointly controlled by Tauranga City Council and Western Bay of Plenty District Council.

The two councils appoint trustees to the council-controlled organisation's (CCO) board of trustees.

Purpose of TBOP:

TBOP leads initiatives that drive the prosperity of our people and place through tourism. As a CCO, TBOP supports the community and environmental goals of both councils.

The council-controlled organisation has the lead role in ensuring the sustainable growth of the Western Bay of Plenty visitor economy and the management of the region as a visitor destination.

TBOP also manages the i-Site Visitor Information Centre.

Te Rere o Ōmanawa – Ōmanawa Falls project won Te Tohu Waka Hourua – The Buddle Findlay Award for Excellence in Māori-Council Partnerships at the 2024 Taituarā Local Government Excellence Awards. It is a fantastic recognition of the collaboration between Council, TBOP and local hapū Ngāti Hangarau to create a safe and sustainable way for the public to access this special place.

For more information about TBOP’s operations, the leadership team and the board of trustees, please go to the Tourism Bay of Plenty website.
