Weather event update - Sunday, 19 April, 6pm

Following the recent weather event, all roads have now reopened.

The storm caused damage to homes, parks, and infrastructure, with 15 properties affected across the city. Four families remain displaced but have organised alternative accommodation tonight.

Maungatapu Marae has sustained structural and roof damage, with on site coordination underway.

Roads:

  • Welcome Bay Road – open
  • Devonport Road – open (clean up continues)
  • Hamilton Street (west of Cameron Road) – one lane open

Parks closed:

  • Tye Park
  • Wharepai Domain
  • Rotary Park (Maungatapu)

Please take care while travelling, check in on neighbours where you can, and report hazards to 07 577 7000.

The Tauranga City Council is a member of the Bay of Plenty Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) Group, which includes six other local authorities within the Bay of Plenty Region. Council has a responsibility to effectively manage the reduction of, readiness for, response to and recovery from emergency situations whether natural or otherwise, that may cause loss of life, injury or illness.
