Community grant funding supports community-led initiatives to create positive change and enhance the community’s ability to meet its needs and develop local leadership.
Community Grant Fund
Due to the recent severe weather events in Tauranga and the associated impacts across our community, Tauranga City Council has temporarily re-allocated internal resources to support response and recovery efforts. As a result, our funding team has limited capacity, and we will be postponing the opening of the Community Grants funding round to 1 April 2026, with a closing date of 30 April 2026.
Key information
Who can apply?
- Applications are welcomed from community organisations that are registered charities, not for profit iwi, hapū or kāupapa Māori organisations, as well as schools, kura and not for profit early childhood education providers.
What can get funded?
- All applications must demonstrate contribution to one Tauranga community outcome.
- There are some exclusions - these are listed in the Exclusions Funding Policy below.

How do we assess applications?
- Please note we are currently receiving far more applications than there is funding. Therefore, Tauranga City Council is prioritising small local organisations and excluding organisations that receive three quarters or more of their funding from government contracts (not grants).
- There are some criteria - these are listed in the Community Grants assessment criteria document below.
- Applications to improve the capability of community emergency hubs will be prioritised.
