Animal events

We have a number of annual, fun events that give you an opportunity to socialise your dog or for you to learn more about being a responsible dog owner.

Pooch in Pool

Each year, when the Memorial Park swimming pool closes to the public, we let our dogs have a little fun too. This is a great day out for the whole family. This year’s event is on Sunday, 14 April 2019. There will be giveaways, free samples, balls galore and more.

Fee: $6 entry – pre-purchase tickets from Baywave or Memorial pools.

There are three session times to choose from:

10:00am for small dogs
11:30am for large dogs
1:00pm for dogs all shapes and sizes that get on well together

Pet Expo

On 22 and 23 June 2019, the Pet Expo will be held at Trustpower Baypark Arena. This is an informative day out, and gives you a chance to check out the huge range of pet and animal associated items. Unfortunately, you can’t bring your furry friend along to the expo.

Mud Dog Run

The Mud Dog Run is back! Once again, we’ve teamed up with Western Bay District Council to bring you and your pooch the 2019 Mud Dog Run at TECT All Terrain Park. It’s all going down on Sunday, 10 November and there will be options for all levels, including a 2.5km and 6km fun run (starting at both 11am and 1pm).
Tickets are $25 each or $30 for a family so register now!

Tails & Trails Dog Walks

We are developing a programme of free, fun and friendly dog walks around our city. It’s a chance to get to know other dog lovers and have fun with your dog outdoors. Keep an eye out for future dates and locations.

Western Bay Wander Dogs Summer Series – social dog walks

Western Bay of Plenty District Council has arranged some great social walks across the sub-region this summer. Join Alfie, the Wander Dogs mascot, on new and exciting walks from Waihi to Te Puke, and other places in between.
