The tragic Mauao landslide on Thursday, 22 January 2026 has left our community feeling profound shock and loss.
In the days that followed, we established the He Maimai Aroha Community Care Centre as a dedicated space for people to gather, reflect, pay tribute, and share messages of condolence.
He Maimai Aroha Community Care Centre closed on 22 February 2026.
All condolences shared at the centre will be respectfully archived. We are developing a plan for the most appropriate future care and location of the tributes and condolence boards, in consultation with the families who lost loved ones.
We will continue to keep our community and stakeholders informed as plans and timeframes are confirmed.
