Campgrounds, offensive trades, mortuaries and funeral directors must all be registered with Council prior to opening for business.
An environmental health officer will inspect the premises and if all required standards are met a certificate of registration will be issued.
Hairdressers and barbers
From July 2025, hairdressers and barbers will no longer be required to register their premises. This is because the Ministry for Regulation is disestablishing the Health Hairdressers Regulations 1980. For more information, see the government media release.
This means existing hairdressers do not need to renew their registration in September.
If you are establishing a new hairdressing business in the future, remember to contact other Council teams, such as the resource consents, building consents, and city waters teams, to check if you need permission.
