Anzac Day

Every year we honour the soldiers who fought at Gallipoli and remember those involved in other conflicts at the Anzac Day Civic Memorial Service on 25 April at Memorial Park.

Tauranga Civic Memorial Service 2019

Join us as we honour the soldiers who fought at Gallipoli and remember those involved in other conflicts at this year’s Anzac Day Civic Memorial Service at 9am on Thursday, 25 April 2019 at Memorial Park.

Parade information 

Groups wishing to march in the parade please assemble by 8.30am next to the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre. 

Wreaths

If your organisation or group wishes to lay a wreath during the service please email Kate Percy at anzacday@tauranga.govt.nz.

Wreath registration closes at 9am on Monday, 22 April. You can lay a wreath if you missed the registration, but the name of the organisation you are representing won’t be read out on the day.

Wreaths laid during the service will be removed from the cenotaph at dusk on Anzac Day. The wreaths can be collected from the Tauranga RSA at 1237 Cameron Road, Greerton, from Friday, 26 April until noon Saturday, 27 April 2019.

Wreaths not collected by noon on Saturday, 27 April 2019 will be disposed of.

Park and ride and car parking

A free park and ride service will be available from Tauranga Boys’ College to Memorial Park between 8am and 8.40am, with buses returning immediately after the service. 

Car parking will be available at the Tauranga Boys’ College car park off Devonport Road (between Thirteenth and Fourteenth Avenues) with marshals onsite to assist people making their way to the buses. Buses will drop off at the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre car park, this is also the pick-up point after the Civic Memorial Service.  All park and ride buses are accessible for people with limited mobility.

There is no additional car parking at Memorial Park, however PAK’n SAVE on Cameron Road (between Ninth and Tenth Avenues) have made their above ground car park available for people attending the Anzac Day civic memorial service.

Car parking for mobility card holders ONLY will be available outside the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre.

Wet weather

In the event of bad weather, the Anzac Day Civic Memorial Service will be held in the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre and the parade will not take place. 

Road closures

Tauranga

From 8am to 11am on Thursday, 25 April 2019.

Fraser Street – between Eleventh and Thirteenth Avenues
Eleventh Avenue – between Fraser Street and Devonport Road (including the roundabout)
Mobility card holders will be able to get through the road closures.

Mount Maunganui

From 5.30am to 9am Thursday, 25 April 2019.

Marine Parade – between Commons and Banks Avenues
Pacific Avenue - between Rita Street and Marine Parade

Park and ride service (Dawn Parade only)
A free park and ride service for the Dawn Parade will be available from Kawaka Street (behind Blake Park) to Maunganui Road (behind Mount Drury). Buses will depart from Kawaka Street between 5am and 5.50am, returning at the conclusion of the Dawn Service between 6.15am and 7.30am.
