Anzac Day

ANZAC Day banner

Anzac Day is a national day of commemoration observed on 25 April each year. It commemorates those who died serving New Zealand during war while honouring returned and current servicemen and women, past and present.

Join us this Anzac Day, Sunday, 25 April, at one of the many services being held throughout the city. Groups who want to march in the parades are asked to assemble by the times given below for each location.  

Road closures

Tauranga from 7am to 12pm on Sunday, 25 April 2021 

  • Fraser Street – between Eleventh and Thirteenth Avenues
  • Eleventh Avenue – between Devonport Road and Fraser Street 

Parking at the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre is only available for mobility cardholders. 

A free park and ride for the Tauranga civic service will be available from Tauranga Boys’ College to Memorial Park from 8am.

Anzac day Tauranga closures

Mount Maunganui from 5.30am to 12pm Sunday, 25 April 2021

  • Marine Parade – between Commons and Banks Avenues
  • Pacific Avenue - between Rita Street and Marine Parade

A free park and ride service for the Mount Maunganui dawn service will be available from Kawaka Street from 5am.

Tauranga Dawn Service

5.45am to 7am, Tauranga RSA Cenotaph, 1237 Cameron Road 

Dawn parade timetable

  • 5.45am – assemble at Hayes Avenue
  • 5.55am – march off
  • 6am – service begins

Park and ride 

A free park and ride service for the Mount Maunganui dawn service will be available from Kawaka Street (behind Blake Park) to Maunganui Road (behind Mount Drury). Buses will depart from 5am to 5.50am, returning at the conclusion of the service.

Anzac Commemorations Tutereinga Marae

5.30am, Tutereinga Marae, 89 Tangitu Rd, Te Puna 
Parade assemble outside the Marae entrance at 5.30am. 

Tauranga Civic Memorial Service

8.45am to 10.30am, Tauranga Memorial Park, Eleventh Avenue

Civic parade timetable

  • 8.45am – assemble on the grass beside Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre
  • 8.55am – march off
  • 9.am – service begins

Wreaths

If your organisation or group wishes to lay a wreath during the service, please email eventbookings@tauranga.govt.nz.  

Wreath registration closes at 9am on Wednesday, 21 April. You may still lay a wreath if you missed the registration; however, the name of the organisation you are representing won’t be read out on the day.

Wreaths will be removed from the various locations at dusk on Anzac Day and can be collected from the Tauranga RSA at 1237 Cameron Road, Greerton on Monday, 26 April, between 7am and 12noon, and Tuesday, 27 April from 9am to 5pm. After this time, they will be disposed of.

Park and ride and car parking

A free park and ride service will be available from Tauranga Boys’ College to Memorial Park between 8am, and 8.40am, with buses returning immediately after the service. Buses will drop off and pick up from the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre car park. All park and ride buses are accessible for people with limited mobility.

Car parking is available at the Tauranga Boys’ College car park off Devonport Road (between Thirteenth and Fourteenth Avenues), with marshals on-site to help people make their way to the buses. PAK’n' SAVE on Cameron Road (between Ninth and Tenth Avenues) have made their above-ground car park available for people attending the service.

The Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre car park is ONLY available for mobility cardholders.

Mount Maunganui Civic Memorial Service

9.15am – 10.30am at Mount Maunganui Cenotaph, Marine Parade (opposite Mount Drury)

  • 9.25am – march off
  • 9.30am – service begins

Papamoa Civic Memorial Service

11.45am to 1pm, Papamoa Memorial, Stella Place beach car park, Papamoa Beach Road

  • 11.45am: Assemble on the grass down from Papamoa cenotaph – near Papamoa Pony Club 
  • 11.55am: March off 
  • 12pm: Service begins
