Council achieves Toitū CarbonReduce Certification

We recently completed the annual audit requirements of our certification for the fourth consecutive year (FY 2022/23). Council has a target of reducing its emissions by 15% by 2024 from our 2018/19 baseline. Our emissions for the 2020/21 FY were 10,973.06 tCO2e, which were 9% lower than the base year total of 12,101.27 tCO2e. These emissions were 5% higher than the 2019/20 FY, which was a year our operations were impacted by the Covid-19 lockdown.

Response to Emissions Reduction Plan

Council has made a submission to the Ministry for the Environment on its consultation document - Te hau mārohi ki anamata - Transitioning to a low-emissions climate-resilient future – which will inform New Zealand’s first emissions reduction plan, setting the direction for climate action for the next 15 years. A copy of our submission is available below.
