COVID-19: Business support

Support and guidance for businesses during COVID-19.

Where to get advice and support

The Government’s resource for COVID-19 business information is at business.govt.nz

Kiwi business boost offers business information and support, including COVID-19 guidance, to suit your needs.

A free helpline service is available for all New Zealand businesses for specific advice and access to Government business support. It includes advice on what alert levels mean for your business, HR and general business advice, access to online resources and webinars, and connections to business advisory services.

To find out more call 0800 500 362 if you are in the North Island, or 0800 505 096 if you are in the South Island.

The Regional Business Partner Network can also provide resources and support.

Business mentors can be accessed through business mentors.

Go with Tourism’ offers a range of free services, resources and support for both tourism employers and employees.

For specialist business advice for Māori business owners and employers, call 0800 4 POUTAMA (0800 476 882).

Te Arawhiti can also help iwi to connect with funding and services to help Māori recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

NZ COVID tracer QR codes

For alert levels 2-4, all businesses and services are required to display the official NZ COVID tracer QR code posters in a prominent place at or near the main entrances to each of their premises.

Business, employment and training support

Connected.govt.nz is a service to help New Zealanders connect to the wide range of employment, education and training support and advice available through government agencies. It can assist with:

  • employment advice and tools to set up and run, or manage closure of your business
  • information for businesses to build capabilities of your workforce
  • information on financial help available to businesses affected by COVID-19.

Rates relief

Council rates remissions are available for ratepayers that meet the criteria, and rates can be postponed in some circumstances.

Travel across alert level boundaries

During a regional resurgence a COVID-19 Alert Level Boundary may be established, limiting travel into or out of an affected region. An alert level boundary separates areas that are at different alert levels from the rest of New Zealand. In order to travel across the boundary you will need to have proof that you either fit into a permitted activity or have a specific exemption to travel. You can find out more on the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment website
