TC43/25: Tauranga Wharewaka Pavilion - Construction - ADVANCE NOTICE

The purpose of this Advance Notice is to inform suppliers of the upcoming release of a Request for Proposal for a Main Contractor to deliver the construction of the new Tauranga Wharewaka Pavilion, which will be situated at the southern end of the Waterfront Reserve.

The building will be approximately 8m wide and 29.2m in length and designed to have a “twisted roof” design. The building is to have timber portal frames as the main structure with vertical cladding, open timber screens and coloursteel roof.

The scope of the contract deliverables includes, but is not limited to:

  • An experienced contractor who has both the capability and capacity to engage, if required, in an ECI contract, for inputs on final design and construction methodology.
  • An experienced contractor who has both the capability and capacity to construct the new Wharewaka Pavilion, which will integrate with the new waterfront identity under the wider Civic Redevelopment programme.
  • Associated hardscaping around 1m of the building.
  • Lighting installation - controlled by Pharos.
  • Associated civil works includes, but is not limited to:
    • Disconnection of the existing service lines and provision of alternative service connection.
    • Mill and dispose of the existing asphalt at the southern mooring holder’s carpark as required for constructing the Wharewaka Pavilion.
    • General excavation & fill to attain design level.
  • Provide a Traffic Management Plan (TMP).
  • Provide Health & Safety procedures (SSSP).
  • Provide a Construction Management Plan (CMP).

Performance, functionality or technical standards to be met:

  • NZS3910:2013 – Conditions of contract for building and civil engineering construction.
  • NZS3101:2006 – Concrete structures
  • NZS3404:1997 – Steel structures
  • NZS3603:1993 – Timber structures
  • NZS AS 1720.1:2022 – Timber structures
  • EN 1995-1-1 :2004+A1 :2008 – Eurocode 5: Design of Timber Structures
  • Compliance with relevant building codes
  • Compliance with relevant Resource and Building Consents
  • Compliance with current Health and Safety legislation and best practices
  • Environmental and sustainability considerations.

Indicative timeframes:

Request for Proposal anticipated to be released: Mid Feb – Mid March 2025
Project Commencement: July 2025
Project Completion: December 2025
