The nomination period to fill the extraordinary vacancy for Council’s Te Awanui Māori Ward has now closed. Nominations have been received from:

A voting process is required to determine the successful candidate and will be conducted by postal voting using the Single Transferable Voting (STV) electoral system. Voting will open on Monday 7 April and close at 12 noon on Tuesday 29 April 2025. Candidate names will be listed in random order on the voting papers.
Enrolment and Special Voting Arrangements
Tauranga City Council residents who are enrolled on the Māori roll and who are not listed on the final electoral roll for this by-election can enrol or amend their enrolment details on the electoral roll on or before 5pm Monday 28 April 2025:
- Online at www.vote.nz
- By texting your name and address to 3676 to get a form sent to you
- By calling 0800 36 76 56 to ask for a form to be sent to you
- By email request to enquiries@elections.govt.nz
Tauranga City Council ratepayers who are enrolled on the Māori roll and who live outside the Tauranga City Council area and who are not listed on the final electoral roll for this by-election can enrol on or before 5pm Monday 28 April 2025 by completing and returning a ratepayer enrolment form, available from the Tauranga City Council office or website.
Special voting facilities for this by-election will be available from the Tauranga City Library and Service Centre, He Puna Manawa, 21 Devonport Road, Tauranga, from Monday 7 April to Monday 28 April between 9.30 am and 5 pm and between 9.30 am and 12 noon, Tuesday 29 April 2025.
