From 1 July 2022, the rates invoice you receive from us will exclude Bay of Plenty Regional Council (BOPRC) rates, which will be processed separately by the regional council.
Tauranga City Council will no longer be invoicing and collecting these rates on their behalf. This will mean that the rates invoice that you receive from us in August will be for our rates only.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council will send you their separate rates invoice in September; this will be due for payment on 20 October. They will only send one invoice for the entire rating year.
Why is this changing?
BOPRC would like to be able to provide transparency and accountability for the work that they do for the rates that you pay.

What is happening to my direct debit payments?
From March, we will be changing your direct debit payments. We will send you a letter outlining your new direct debit amount which will no longer include the BOPRC component. You will need to set up a separate direct debit payment for your BOPRC rates.
I have an automatic payment for my rates, what should I do?
If you pay by an automatic payment to us, you will need to set up a separate automatic payment with your bank to pay BOPRC to make sure you pay your rates invoiced by them.
I pay by online banking, what do I do?
You will need to set up a new bill payee for BOPRC when you receive their invoice in September. You will need to make sure to check your invoice carefully with BOPRC so you pay them and not us by mistake.
I apply for a rates rebate each year, what will change?
Nothing. You will continue to apply for your rates rebate at Tauranga City Council. The only change is that we will use the assessed amount for your property from BOPRC to include in your rates rebate calculation for your entitlement. We will share more with you in our August newsletter about this.
I need to change my postal or email address, will you let BOPRC know?
We are working through some ideas with the BOPRC on how we can share or link solutions on updating customer information. This section will be updated when we have a process in place.
