In Tauranga, there are a number of rules around using loading zones, parking heavy vehicles and roadside vehicle sales.
Loading zones
There are two types of loading zone signs.
Loading zone - goods service vehicles only
Only trucks, vans or utes can use these loading zones.
Loading zone
All types of vehicles can use these loading zones providing that:
- goods or passengers are being loaded or unloaded from the vehicle
- the vehicle belongs to the class specified on the sign
- the vehicle isn’t left unattended for more than 5 minutes, or any time longer than specified on the sign.
You cannot leave the vehicle if the loading zone sign indicates that the vehicle must be attended at all times.
Heavy vehicles in residential areas
Council has some specific rules on parking heavy motor vehicles including trucks, trailers, large motor homes and campervans in residential streets.
The rules are in place to prevent heavy vehicles from being a hazard to traffic and pedestrians, and to reduce damage to street berms and services. Council investigates any complaints regarding heavy vehicles parked in residential areas.
Roadside vehicle sales
There are only a few places on the roadside where you can legally park a vehicle for sale. To find out where you can park a vehicle for sale please call us.
Alternatively, you read a full list of the roads where vehicles can’t be parked for sale in the Attachments to Traffic and Parking Bylaw (2mb pdf). Vehicles can’t be parked within 30 metres of any intersection of any road on the prohibited list.
