Hairdressers, campgrounds, offensive trades and funeral directors must all be registered with Council prior to opening for business.
An environmental health officer will inspect the premises and if all required standards are met a certificate of registration will be issued. A hairdresser registration certificate runs for 12 months from the approval date. For other registration types the certificate runs from 1 October to 30 September. All certificates must be renewed each year.
Registered premises are inspected regularly to make sure they comply with the legislative requirements.
Hairdressers and hairdressing salons
You need a certificate of registration from Council before you open a hairdressing salon. The certificate of registration shows that your salon complies with the structural and sanitary requirements set out through the Government's Health (Hairdressers) Regulations.
Depending on the proposed set up of your salon, you may also need building and resource consent.
Beauty therapy premises and tattoo parlours are not required to be registered.
