Litter and street cleaning

Council cleans up litter around the city’s streets and parks on a regular basis. Public rubbish bins are emptied regularly. Please let us know if you see an overflowing bin or illegally dumped rubbish.

Street sweeping

Local residential streets are swept three times per year. Other streets are swept more frequently depending on their location and function. Special attention is given to the two metre edge zone travelled by cyclists on arterial roads.

Street cleaning will usually start as early as 5 am in the business districts. This is standard for most cities where business areas needs to be cleaned before cars begin parking in the way.

Dumped rubbish

If you find any illegally dumped rubbish, including abandoned vehicles, please phone to let us know so we can deal with it.

Abandoned Vehicles

We collect abandoned vehicles from public roads, parks and reserves - not from private property. When an abandoned vehicle has been reported, a sticker will be placed on the vehicle to advise that it must be moved within 7 working days or it will be towed.

Phone us to report an abandoned vehicle. You will be asked the following information:

  • Where is the vehicle located?
  • How long has it been there?
  • Licence Plate number
  • Description of the car and is it driveable?
  • Does it have a current registration and warrant of fitness?
