Candidate profile

My principal place of residence is in the Tauranga City Council area. I am also standing for Matua- Otūmoetai General Ward.

I love Tauranga and have been part of this community for over three decades. I've lived, run businesses and raised a family here. Currently I work at simplifying business processes for small businesses here and overseas. I want to give back and serve my community.

With a strong financial and people management background, including a BMS, I bring robust financial literacy, leadership, comprehension, and decision-making skills to the table.

I participate actively in our vibrant Arts communities, meeting a variety of people and working with different personalities to meet common goals.

When elected, my priorities are to lead a cohesive council with comprehensive community representation, and to implement future strategic plans with measurable objectives. I will focus on infrastructure and community facilities to build a city which caters for individual, cultural and business needs. I will advocate for a healthier city where our diverse cultural priorities are respected.

Candidate profile

My principal place of residence is not in the Tauranga City Council area. I am also standing for Welcome Bay General Ward.

For 21 years I have lived and raised a family in the Bay, 17 of those running my own business. I have seen Tauranga evolve and am aware of the problems the city is facing. I have experienced the bureaucracy and red tape that restricts progress, consuming time and money. In my mid-forties I have the motivation and leadership skills to bring practicality to planning and budgeting. To balance job creation with business development, I will focus on improving efficiency with processing times, especially building consents and rationalising the current budget rather than the neverending increasing of rates.

In addition, to name but a few, it will be important to keep traffic moving, improve infrastructure, bring common sense to city centre development and increase productivity overall.

Looking forward to the challenge.

Candidate profile

My principal place of residence is in the Tauranga City Council area.

I am committed to Tauranga and its future. I donated my successful business to our community, so far contributing over $3.5 million to organisations like hospice, surf-lifesaving, schools and the rescue helicopter.

I believe that those who have done well should give back. That's why I strongly oppose subsidising development through rates. Developers must pay their fair share toward transport and growth infrastructure. As Tauranga's last full-term Mayor, I stood up for our city to Central Government and prioritised essential infrastructure, delivering critical water, sewage, flooding, transport, and airport projects. Tauranga's debt has doubled recently due to poorly targeted spending and is forecast to triple. Despite a 53% rate increase, we've only seen expanded bureaucracy and business disruption. I have the experience to turn things around immediately. With your support, we can secure Tauranga's future and preserve our democracy.

Vote Greg Brownless for responsible leadership.

My principal place of residence is in the Tauranga City Council area. I am also standing for Te Papa General Ward.

I'm Andrew Caie, A self-employed Physiotherapist and Tauranga local with a strong desire to improve our community.

I'm running for council because I believe we have been given a golden opportunity to make Tauranga a leading city in New Zealand and we need energy and vision to complete the job. Tauranga requires a revitalized CBD to be its cultural and economic hub, efficient public transport to alleviate our congestion, and to use and nurture our world-renowned landscapes. All of these things have been set in motion. For too long council plans have been started and cancelled. That's why I am offering my time, energy and abilities to serve the People of Tauranga for the next 3 elections. So we can complete the 10 year plan and Tauranga can reach its potential!

Together we can get the job done!

My principal place of residence is in the Tauranga City Council area. I am also standing for Te Papa General Ward.

I stand for election again because I sincerely believe that the ratepayers of Tauranga have been poorly served over the last few years. Many of the projects and planning decisions are just so far away from what the ratepayers want, or can afford. I believe in a management structure that reflects the views of ratepayers. And I believe that they should be involved in all aspects of Council functions. Having previously served on Council I am familiar with how the system works. The Council should be led by the elected members who set policy for staff to implement. I am retired and can invest all of my time to the city. I am experienced in business having advanced from apprentice to CEO, have been a part of many successful businesses in Tauranga and overseas with a management style of delegating and allowing people to grow in their roles.

Determined. Dedicated. Resilient. Ready
I have no quick or easy answers, but I can be a voice for sustainable change. Change happens when determined perseverance and resilience overcome life's obstacles.

My top three priorities are local business, youth and elderly, if all three are empowered and supported our community will thrive. Our city is struggling, our suburbs need help, our community needs support. We are only as strong as our most vulnerable.

I come from generations raised in Tauranga, with future generations still being raised here, utilizing the local schooling and transport systems. Ko Ngati Ranginui toku iwi. I have witnessed Tauranga's evolution, from decisions made to decisions revised.

Lets shape our future with purpose, unity and confidence.

What and who makes changes, he tangata, he tangata, he tangata. It is people, it is people, it is people. We do! We make change together!

I know of a Tauranga-based company specialising in stadium design and construction who can deliver a boutique, fit-for-purpose, covered stadium, seating 7,500 to 10,000 spectators, with lights for night games, and required amenities, for under $50million at Blake Park, compared to a $220million, over-the-top stadium, seating 7,000 people, which will now struggle to get off the ground because the proposers have brassed off so many sport organisations at the domain.

We've elected some clowns over the years so you might as well elect the professional who knows how to count and recognises a deal when he sees one.

Candidate profile

My principal place of residence is in the Tauranga City Council area. I am also standing for Pāpāmoa General Ward.

I am an engineer. I have a bachelors degree from Auckland University, and a Doctorate from Cambridge University. Born and raised in Tauranga, I have worked overseas and have been back in Papamoa for the last 20 years. Tauranga is a great place to live, but our rates are too high and spending is out of control. We need careful spending, realistic budgets and affordable rate increases. I would scrap the CBD projects. Council should get back to basics: water, roads and facilities. Tauranga needs better roads, more community facilities, cheaper housing and cycle paths. The council organisation needs to be fixed, it is top heavy, inefficient, and is wasting our money. Sensible spending and reducing waste is a better deal for ratepayers than just increasing rates. Council needs new faces who will reign in the out-of-control spending. Please elect a good team for Council.

Candidate profile

My principal place of residence is in the Tauranga City Council area. I am also standing for Bethlehem General Ward.

The purpose of local government is to enable democratic decision-making by and on behalf of the community; the key words being democratic, and community.

Consequently, Mayors have no executive powers; they must respect, and represent, the decisions of the elected Council; decisions that should reflect the community's will. Elections allow the community the opportunity to judge those decisions, and the decision-makers.

Judgement time is now.

Many recent Council decisions do not reflect the community's will.

Instead, they prioritise civic monuments over critical transport and waters infrastructure, and subsidise developers at the expense of residential ratepayers.

Allowed to stand, these decisions will burden the community with $3billion of debt, higher per-capita than the other major cities; and too much of it invested badly!

Independent, with significant commercial and governance experience, if elected Mayor, I will work tirelessly to ensure democratic decision-making determines Tauranga's future.
