Marine Facilities Strategy

Marine facilities strategy

We are developing a Marine Facilities Strategy that will guide the way our community and visitors access Tauranga Harbour, Te Awanui, in the future.

Marine facilities are our boat ramps, wharves, jetties and pontoons. They provide access to Te Awanui primarily for recreation and commercial purposes.

Council has included funding in the recent Long Term Plan for the redevelopment of Fisherman’s Wharf and new boat ramps at Sulphur Point. The Marine Facilities Strategy will help guide when these facilities are required and what else may be needed to provide opportunities for you to access the harbour.

Thank you to everyone who filled out our survey in July to help us better understand how our marine facilities are used now and are likely to be used in the future. We had over 450 responses from the community that will help us to develop the Marine Facilities Strategy.

We are now developing a summary report of those responses, which will be shared on this page once completed. We will also be in touch directly with those who asked to be kept informed about the Marine Facilities Strategy in the future.
