Candidate profile

My principal place of residence is in the Mauao/Mount Maunganui General Ward area.

Do you seek a councillor with integrity, who is future focussed, will listen and champion what matters most to you in our Mount community? I will advocate for better transport, our local clubs and amenities, the arts, nature and air quality.

I will push for sustainable city design that avoids cheap infill housing and urban sprawl, yet enables housing choice for people struggling to find a home.

I will help build a council that genuinely works together, values collaboration, transparency, respect and accountability.

I have a postgrad in Sustainable Practice, have been a small business owner and am on the board of two community trusts. I have experience working within the Tauranga Council system and know we can make it work better for all of us.

I believe I have the experience, financial acumen, and community focus to be your effective champion for the Mount ward and our awesome City.

Candidate profile

My principal place of residence is in the Mauao/Mount Maunganui General Ward area.

I have lived in Mount Maunganui for 36 years and Tauranga for 2 years before that. I am a self-employed lawyer with 38 years of experience, 31 of those on my own account. I am a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal New Zealand Navy Volunteer Reserve and have completed two overseas operational deployments and multiple domestic and international military exercises. From 2003 to 2009 I was the Chairman of the Tauranga Millennium Track Trust that organised the construction of and raised the finance for the world class athletic track at the Tauranga Domain.

I am standing to represent community organisations, the glue that binds communities together and the ratepayers.

My vision is different than that of the Commissioners. I see Tauranga as a 21st century city of interconnected villages rather than a pre 21st century city with one CBD.

If you want a representative that will ask the questions you would ask, listen to voters, put policy above politics, seek accountability on all projects, then your vote for Nichols is a clear choice. Like you, I am vested. Democracy has returned along with a multitude of opportunities and challenges which are best addressed by a long-time resident.  It is a time that calls for clear policies, transparency, strong negotiation of contracts, fiscal accountability, and responsibility. Our community recognizes tenacious leadership, commitment and vetted experience is required to navigate the transition and to deliver a thriving future that the residents have chosen. The encouragement from the Mt. Maunganui community, businesses, neighbours and beyond to stand for council is humbling and the reason Nichols appears on your ballot.

Your vote for Nichols is a vote for you. Insight-advisor.co.nz

Candidate profile

My principal place of residence is in the Mauao/Mount Maunganui General Ward area.

My family has lived, loved and served Tauranga since the 1890's, with 12 years of prior elected service as a Councillor, Community Board Chair and President BOP Justices of the Peace, alongside current Chair of BOP Child Youth Mortality Review Committee, President MRRR and a lifetime commitment to Surf Lifesaving, I have the competencies and passion to represent this Ward.

A key business principle is to take your stakeholders with you, yet Ratepayers are not feeling ownership or inclusiveness in Council business, in particular debt levels. I have worked hard representing the Mount Community, attending local Council sponsored workshops, and passionately advocating for Mount interests, Coastal Pathway, Mount reinstatement. I understand the issues facing this Ward, Links Ave, flood mitigation, Totara Street Hewletts Road congestion, air quality. I'll champion the local voice through forward thinking, inclusive, socially cohesive, commonsense governance and empower communities to be representatives of their place.

Candidate profile

My principal place of residence is in the Mauao/Mount Maunganui General Ward area.

I was employed in Maritime Logistics, for both National and International Companies, and have resided in Mount Maunganui since late 1969.

As a long standing resident and ratepayer, I know the financial pressure imposed on property owners, to meet the ever increasing rating demands. Since 1989, when Mount Maunganui, ceased to be an independent borough, some eight hundred million dollars, have been collected, from Mount Maunganui residential rate payers.

Only a fraction of that amount, has been spent, to improve the residential streets, we still have uncompleted foot paths, while many others, are broken, and in need of replacement.

Much of residential Mount Maunganui, still has above ground power poles, while the supply feed, to homes is underground. If elected I will work hard on behalf of the mount residents, to insure council, concentrates on the core services, they must legally provide.
