If you are planning to sell food at your event, it is important that you are aware the Food Act (2014) requirements.
We encourage you to contact our event facilitation team to discuss your event’s feasibility, and to get advice and guidance on the next steps to take.
Working with commercial food operators at your event
As an event organiser, you have a responsibility to ensure any commercial food vendors at your event are registered and complying with food safety regulations. Commercial food vendors must always display a copy of their current registration certificate at the event.
If any commercial vendors need more information about how the Food Act (2014) affects them, you can put them in touch with our Environmental Health Team or refer them to information on registering a food business.
Fundraising at events
Food vendors wishing to sell food to fundraise for a charity, cultural or community group up to 20 times per year are exempt from any form of food registration under the Food Act (2014). They must still ensure that the food they sell is safe and suitable.
All fundraising vendors must use the Food Hygiene Event Checklist.

Mobile shop licences
Mobile shop licences will not be required if the mobile shop is only trading at markets and events within the Tauranga City Council district. However, they will still need a Food Control Plan or National Programme. A registration certificate must also be displayed.
Environmental Health Officers undertake random audits of events to ensure vendors are complying with their registrations.
As an event organiser, it is you responsibility to ensure that all vendors have been pre-approved by the Councils Environmental Health Officers, including any last minute additions.
